Cisco: CES Connected Life Presentation

Cisco came to First Person with a need to impress a select group of very high-level clients relating to their Service Provider division at the annual CES Show in Las Vegas. The goal was to tell the story of a normal day in an ordinary home powered by Cisco technology in the very near future all with a live presenter as our guide. They needed something that was more than just a presentation, but couldn’t be so over the top that the story and content were lost on the audience. This demonstration had to be immersive, informative and impressive. The choice was made to use a technique called projection mapping to transform a simple space into a variety of locations in a connected life.

Behind the Scenes

Projected Environments:

The projected stage took on many interactive appearances as the presentation moved to many locations including a living room, the kitchen, work, and a metro platform.

Renderings by: Fernando Toledo and Andy Mai

Sketch to 3D:

These are the 3D schematics used to building and plan the stage. Also included are the sketches and the actual environments that were projected onto the enclosure walls.

The User Experience:

These are just a sample of the many user interfaced designed and animated to represent how the family interacts with their connected home. The TV recognizes them, their phones talk to the refrigerator and the home knows when they make it to the front door.

Designs by: Alec Cummings

Shot by Shot:

This interactive experience had to stop and start in chapters at the pace of the the live presenter. To make the pace more natural and versatile, stills of the characters rather than video was used. Hundreds of shots were taken and stitched together to tell the story.

The Big Build:

We built a test space in the common area of First Person that stood from about Thanksgiving all the way through the new year. Watch as the walls come up, the projections are aligned and the environment takes shape.

Music: Loud Pipes - Ratatat

Photo Animatic:

Each photo is put back to back to form the edit of the story. Each image was keyed and brought into our 3D scenes to interact with the environment.
